Rebus Training Sparks Growth with Grants for Green Tech Electrical Courses
Electrical training provider, Rebus Training was established in Stoke-on-Trent in 2010 by Gary Jackson and Jon Grocock who have over 70 years’ experience between them in the electrical industry.
The company is currently training 198 apprentices and delivering a wide range of commercial electrical courses including 18th Edition Wiring Regulations; Inspection and Testing; Electrical Vehicle Charging, Solar PV, Battery Storage as well as bespoke electrical courses to suit employers’ requirements.
In September 2024, Anne Edge, business development and marketing coordinator at Rebus Training, learned of the availability of grants through the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Skills Hub, based at Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce. The grants were available to fund employee training in Stoke-on-Trent and the Staffordshire Moorlands. Funding was £500 for firms based in Stoke-on-Trent and up to £2000 for those based in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Anne Edge said: “Rebus Training has built up a sound reputation for relevant, quality electrical training in and around Stoke-on-Trent. We are proud of this, and the experience and expert knowledge demonstrated by our tutors. The availability of funding through the Skills Hub was a great opportunity for local electrical businesses to upskill their teams or introduce new capabilities.
“The Skills Hub grant has provided employers with the opportunity to drive growth and innovation through electrical training. We promoted the Skills Hub grant to our customer base in October and immediately had a positive response and uptake for training courses. There was particular interest in courses such as Solar PV, Battery Storage and Electrical Vehicle Charging with companies looking to upskill and maximise on the growth in green technologies.
“We had an initial meeting with Lynn Aspinall from the Chambers of Commerce who explained the Skills Hub Grant initiative and since then Lynn has been incredibly proactive with referrals and in assisting employers with the training grant application process.”
Suzanne Quinn, Project Manager at Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce said: “What Rebus Training have done in offering funding towards the cost of specific electrical courses is a demonstration of what a difference a relatively small grant can make.
“We know that like most trades, there has been a shortage of electricians as well as a skills gap for the installation and deployment of the new green technology such as solar panels, batteries and chargers.
“Rebus Training and the Skills Hub team have worked in partnership to deliver funded electrical training to as many businesses as possible. For now, the funding has been allocated but should there be further grants available we will look to reactivate this partnership.”
